NOTES
This panoramic photograph features a vast interior of a library, its countless books stacked within a curved, architectural structure. A closer look reveals this image does not depict reality. Andreas Gursky digitally altered the appearance of this public library in Stockholm, Sweden, by replacing the lower floor with a mirroring view of the library stacks above. The result underscores the vast expanse of human knowledge housed on these shelves. Through digital manipulation, Gursky also toys with the systematic organization of the library by subtly and playfully rewording and reordering the signage installed throughout the stacks.
