NOTES
Arnulf Rainer first developed the "Face Farce" series in an automatic photo booth at the train station in Vienna. Once inside the booth, Rainer worked up his facial muscles to a point of intense agitation, believing it tapped into channels of the irrational self. Rainer later rephotographed and handcolored these images as a way to amplify the expression captured by the photograph.
