NOTES
Adam Aronson, with wife Judith Aronson, Ph.D., gave many gifts to the Saint Louis Art Museum, including this work by the realist painter Philip Pearlstein. A friend of the Aronsons, Pearlstein painted this portrait from life. His close relationship with the Aronsons is evident in this painting, which departs from the cool detachment more typical of Pearlstein's work.
While he did paint several portraits, Pearlstein is best known for his depictions of nude models, often posed with several objects as part of a still life.
